SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT TRAINING COLLABORATION PROGRAM

Carbon Credit, also known as Carbon Emission Permit, is a tool helping organizations and businesses reduce the amount of greenhouse gas emission to the environment, while also assisting countries and organizations in achieving emission reduction targets under climate change agreements.

The course provides participants with basic understanding of Carbon Credits, the importance in addressing climate change issues, and fundamental principles underlying the establishment and trading of Carbon Credits.

The journey towards Net-Zero is not only a commitment of the Vietnamese government but also a commitment of all other countries worldwide. To minimize human impact on climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and simultaneously enhancing measures such as carbon removal or offsetting to achieve Net-Zero. The course provides definitions related to the term “Net-Zero,” the difficulties and challenges in implementing the Net-Zero pathway for businesses & governments.

Carbon offsetting and carbon neutrality play important roles on the pathway towards Net-Zero. In order to provide fundamental knowledge for individuals and organizations interested in understanding the field of Carbon Emissions on the journey towards Net-Zero, the course offers definitions related to the terms “Carbon offsetting and carbon neutrality,” as well as listing and explaining basic methods and illustrative examples from current practices worldwide and in Vietnam.

Forests always play an important role in balancing the global Carbon cycle, serving as both a source and a sink of Carbon. Forests are also a vital component in global efforts to combat climate change.

Calculating the amount of Carbon in forest ecosystems and the changes in Carbon stocks due to human activities are the first necessary steps towards recognizing the important role of forests in climate change mitigation policies at regional, national, and global scales.

Organizations may pursue greenhouse gas (GHG) inventorying and verification for several reasons, such as annual reporting, engaging with customers, meeting legal requirements or reporting obligations of investors, or publicly disclosing emissions reduction achievements.

The course provides definitions related to the terms “Greenhouse Gas Inventorying and Verification,” as well as basic methods for calculating greenhouse gas emissions. This is the first step towards reducing emissions, Carbon offsetting, and Carbon neutrality on the path towards Vietnam Government’s target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

CBAM, or Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism, is a pricing system targeting imports into the European market, adjusting the price of certain imported goods based on the amount of CO2 emissions. The main objective of this environmental measure is to prevent carbon leakage. It will also encourage European trading partners to establish carbon pricing policies to combat climate change.

Through sustainability reporting, organizations can understand and communicate the risks and opportunities associated with their activities.
